-Week Fourteen-

    Lessons Learned 

       This semester I have learned a lot from this course. I definitely was not what I thought it would be going in. I was expecting a more practical, informational approach to the intro to entrepreneurship topic. Really I would consider this class to be more like a "believe in yourself 101". There weren't a whole lot of business terms discussed or vocabulary used however, the information given in this class was useful in a completely different way. It taps more into the feeling of being an entrepreneur by using the advice and experience of others. If I were to give one piece of advice to a group of students, I would tell them that the core of entrepreneurialism is not making money or chasing wealth. Moreover, the true nature and soul of being an entrepreneur can be found through true passion combined with a realistic vision. That is what it's truly about. The people who are only in it to become CEOs, wear fancy suits, and be rich will find a better fit in investment banking or some other route. I learned this semester that being an entrepreneur is all about passion. I would advise them to be wary of the pursuit of money and fame. Because these things will not spell success for them as an entrepreneur. This class did a good job at teaching me that and I also appreciated how much The Saviour and His Gospel were included in the teachings of this class.

  7 /12/24 Entrepreneur Journal -Week Twelve-      Lessons Learned           In the text this week we read about the values of virtue and integrity and how they can positively or negatively affect an economy. The author Charles Handy argues that these values are important because business is a system that relies on trust. To a certain fundamental degree, the business world would not function as intended if the values of virtue and integrity didn't exist. Elder D. Todd Christopherson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles gave a great talk on this subject titled "Sustainable Societies". In it, he argued that an economy or community is not held together by its laws only but instead by the integrity of the general public. Week 7

     6 /9/24 Entrepreneur Journal -Week Seven-      Lessons Learned      This week we read the seven habits of highly effective people. For me, none of this material was new. My father read this book long ago and has carried some of its teachings on to me during my childhood years. For this reason, it was very easy for me to select my favorite of the 7 habits. The one my father mentioned the most and the one that really stuck with me was "seek first to understand, then to be understood". My father always told me that this was the most important and I agree with him. Oftentimes, people have a lot more important things to say than we probably think. Understanding what others are trying to convey because we respond can be a huge tool in helping us respond more intelligently. When we listen first, we are much more prone to understanding and less prone to react or respond in a harsh manner.    Lessons not yet learned  ...
