Lessons Learned
This week the biggest takeaway that I had was from the video that talked about the five whys and how we can apply them to our lives. The speaker begins by saying that this concept might be hard for certain people to grasp because it proves that behind every technical problem, there is actually a human error if we look far enough. The author then describes how one can more effectively address a problem using the five whys. He says that when we encounter a problem, we should ask why it happened, then why that happened, and why that happened, and so on. The author illustrates that by doing this we can discover the true cause of all of our problems and effectively solve them for good. We might be tempted to think that the solution to a surface-level problem is surface-level. However, the author states that these are only "band-aid" fixes to what are normally more complicated issues.
Lessons not yet learned
I really enjoyed learning about this because this strategy applies to much more than simple business matters. One could apply this to every problem is his life and potentially be more effective in solving his life's problems. I am starting to notice a trend with this class there are very few if any topics covered that do not apply to real life. Mostly everything discussed has a business application and a real-life application. I am enjoying this approach to learning business.
